Tutoring

Tutoring is empowering students with knowledge.
Knowledge to help in attaining a qualification, in gaining confidence and appreciating the subject being studied.

All tutoring sessions are conducted in my office or via zoom in North Edinburgh at Catchpell House Business Centre, 4 Carpet Lane, EH6 6SP, which has a waiting area for parents/spouses, but is also within walking distance of a number of shops and cafes. Parking is no longer free and Lothian buses 16, 34, 35 and 36 all have stops nearby.

I offer sessions that normally last for one hour and are one to one. I remain with my students for the entire session taking note of how they work to determine the best way to support them. Sessions can be extended to more than one hour if required, depending on my schedule. Students who require weekly sessions are given an agreed slot within the week that is theirs for the duration of their time with tutoring. Students who wish a more ad hoc approach can not be guaranteed sessions. I can also offer sessions with groups of students of no more than six.

I develop my lessons around the student and their needs with an emphasis on enjoyment and understanding the subject. I diagnostically assess the student’s skills and will develop a program to improve upon their existing skills and revisit skills lost or forgotten. If the student has a good grasp of their own needs, then I’m happy to follow their lead instead. For groups of students, I’d be happy to design and implement lessons but in all sessions, homework is given to consolidate the sessions learning or to discover what new learning should take place.

My subject areas are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, from upper primary to second year university level. I have produced, and continue producing worksheets to compliment my tutoring. I have aided Primary School Teachers with their numeracy skills, Further Education students with their Higher Physics or Civil Engineering Maths courses, high school students with their Advanced Higher Chemistry or National 4/5 Mathematics course, university students with their Heriot-Watt or Edinburgh Uni 1st year Maths courses, primary students with numeracy skills and adults with their Core Skills Maths.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or BACS transfer and I give a receipt to all clients to confirm payment.

I charge from £35 to £45 per hour.

If you cannot attend a booked session, then 24 hour notice is required to cancel, otherwise I will still charge for the missed session.
